James M. Tibbs, Jr., DVM

 

Jim Tibbs is a native Washingtonian, a product of the public and parochial schools, graduating from Archbishop Carroll in 1968. Undergraduate and professional degrees were earned in Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine in 1976 from Tuskegee Institute. Post graduation Dr. Tibbs obtained USDA Accredited Veterinarian status, and his first employment was as an Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist in the Department of Animal Science, North Carolina State University. Subsequently he returned to the D.C. area, entered private practice and served as a Veterinary Medical Officer with the Food and Drug Administration. He is licensed in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
 
Dr.Tibbs has been active in many veterinary organizations. Nationally he has severed on committees of the American Veterinary Medical Association and held office with his Alumni Association. Locally he has served as President of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association and the Prince George's County Veterinary Medical Association.
 
Jim's service to the community has included being a board member of the P.G. County Fair Board, P.G. County Animal Control Commission, Patuxent River 4-H Foundation and serving as a Maryland Racing Commission Veterinarian. Frequently he participates in Career Days at area schools.

Sabrina Owens, DVM

 

An USDA accredited veterinarian and native of Washington DC. Dr. Owens is a 2006 graduate from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in Tuskegee, AL. She received her bachelor of science in Animal and Poultry Science in 2002 from Tuskegee University. Dr. Owens is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Greater Baltimore Veterinary Medical Association, DCDelMarVa Tuskegee Veterinary Alumni Association, Washington-Tuskegee Alumni Association, Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Dr. Owens participates in community activities volunteering for Career Day at local elementary schools to expose youth to the profession. She also serves as a 4-H judge at the Montgomery County Fair every year. She is thrilled about helping animals and their guardians along with the staff at Oakcrest Veterinary Clinic. 

Carolyn F. Tibbs, B.Sc., RVT

 

Carolyn graduated from Washington's McKinley Technical High School and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the District of Columbia. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician and served as President of the Maryland Veterinary Technician Association for three years.  During that time she was instrumental in developing the first externship program between Essex Community College, Veterinary Technology Program and Virginia Tech, VA/MD Regional College, School of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. Carolyn is a member of North American Veterinary Technicians Association, as well as, the Maryland and American Veterinary Medical Associations and their affiliated Auxiliary. Together with her husband, they began the Oakcrest Veterinary Clinic in 1978.
 
Away from the office, Mrs. Tibbs is an active life member of the National Council of Negro Women. She is an extremely devoted director of the Discovery Youth Ministry at her church , where she also leads the adult Womens Sunday School Class.
